Hearty winter greetings to our readers. Winter seems to want to hang in there in some form or other. We haven’t had as much snow, more cold weather, but we’re not complaining about less snow than some have had. Sounds like we’re in for some snow today and tonight.
The flu bug is making its rounds. Some people are really getting it hard, others of us slipped by with a mild case and some not at all. Stephen missed one day, Jr and Galen had it on Saturday (a handy day to have it) Jeremy was running a fever last evening when I stopped in. We looked at a book awhile and then he was feeling better, for the time being, at least.
The cheesemakers are short on help. Cody was playing volleyball on Sunday and collided with someone, with both falling. (it was a girl, think he fell for her?) Cody sprained his ankle badly and won’t be at work for ???? Rachel, Galen’s wife is filling in some and Jennifer Flory will come Wed – Fri. this week to help. The boys feel swamped, we have extra milk coming in right now, meaning they have to make 12 batches a week. Yesterday Cody, Anthony & Stephen planned to come at 5, Galen at 10 & Rachel at 2, with Galen & Rachel finishing. Since Cody couldn’t come to pasteurize, they called Galen (at an ungodly hour, he said) he came in at 5 also. They did some figuring, decided to make 4 batches yesterday and get the extra over with for the week. Rachel also came, they all worked till about 9 PM, making 86 blocks, approx. 3450 lbs. of cheese. We brought pizza and ice cream in for them in the evening. They waited till 7 to start this morning, giving them an extra hour. Guess we’ll see how it’s going by next week. They are having to haul milk an extra day, it doesn’t fit on the truck.
